Without seeing the non-compete you signed, I can't give you any advice about it. But I can tell you the following:

1. Agreements not to compete are allowed for employees, not independent contractors.

2. Often, employers wrap together agreements not to compete with agreements not to solicit clients from the business and not to use company information (including forms, techniques, etc.).
