CAN I BE TERMINATED IF I REFUSE TO COOPERATE?

I WAS AWAY ON VACATION AND 2 CO-WORKERS OVERHEARD AND RECORDED THE OFFICE MANAGER AND ANOTHER ADMINISTRATOR DISCUSSING ME IN A "NOT SO NICE WAY" I APPROACHED THE OFFICE MANAGER ON THE ISSUE AND TODAY I HAD A MEETING WITH AN HR REPRESENTATIVE WHO TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO GIVE THEM THE NAMES OF THE INDIVIDUALS WHO TERMINATED ME OR BE TERMINATED. IS THAT POSSIBLE WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?

Yes. New York is an at-will employment state. Therefore, your employer can terminate you for any reason or no reason at all, with limited exceptions, which include unlawful discrimination or retaliation. Terminating an employee for failure to cooperate does not fall within any exception to the at-will doctrine.
