Company took another employees word over mine because she protected status and I am not
I was working for a non-profit oranization as a store manager. I was going to disipline a supervisor for attendance, whe she stated "Go ahead
I"ll tell the main office that you called me a stupid B----, and they
will beleive me. She also stated that because the majority of the employees were hsipanic they will all side with her.( She is Hispanic, I am not).I called my regional manager and told her of the threat, She told me she believed me and that there would be an investigation. Two days later my regional manager called me at home and told me I was being terminated for putting the company at risk for making deparaging remarks.I was told to bring in my keys and pick up my final paycheck. There was not an investigation.
When I picked up my check, my regional manger said, " I'm not allowed to comment"

Race discrimination is illegal, even against whites. Proof of any discrimination case is difficult, however. The company is not required to be right in its decision to terminate, it need only act without discriminating against you because of race. You have a right to receive a copy of your personnel records, including those records which the employer used to make the decision to terminate. Those records might provide some evidence of discrimination.
The Oregon Bureau of Labor & Industries, Civil Rights Division, is available to investigate claims of discrimination. You may contact that agency by calling 503-378-3292 (Salem Office) or by visiting http://www.boli.state.or.us/contact/index.html. A lawyer also may be able to assist.
Good luck with your claims.
