Discrimination?
I was just let go from my job, I'm a woman ,48.
I was told when let go that it was no reflection on my skills, it was based on seniority only.
The qusetion I have is, how could someone who had the same job skills, less seniority, still remain on the job?
When I asked my supervisor, he said they looked at the last 5 hires and based their decision on that.
I was Rep of the year 2000, 3x's quartly rep.
What are my options? This is a international company involving wood products.
Please help I'm confused!

Seniority seems a very suspicious rationale for a termination -- the question is whether that is an excuse for letting you go because of your age or gender (or some other illegal motive). As Janet has suggested -- more analysis is required. If in Northern Cal. Please give a call for a free tel. consultation. Sincerely, Richard Vaznaugh, attorney at law, 415 487-0426.

what you need to do is look at the ages of the people retained out of those who were looked at for layoff. if all were under 40, you have a prima facie claim of age discrimination. if all were male, you have a prima facie claim of sex discrimination. if on or more of those retained has a special relationship with higher-ups, this may account for exceptions to the previous analysis.
you need to talk to an attorney experienced in employment law.
if you are in southern california, please call for a free phone consultation.
