maybe

this is an interesting question. if your child is so seriously ill or injured (s)he needs personal care, and has no other family member (such as a spouse) to provide the care, you can argue this is a covered situtation. the california regulations provide that a "dependent adult child" is one who has a "disability" that meets the definition in the fair employment and housing act.
you sould consult with an attorney experienced in employment law. you can find one in your area by going to the cal employment lawyers assn's website, ww.celaweb.
