Severance Pay Issues

I was laid off from my job. A big company bouth my company. They offer me severance pay for 6 months, but they do not want that I work for that period of time in any place. I was a manager and I understand I cannot work for the competency, but I found a job in a family business where i will be warehouse manager, and I had the same postion in my former company. can they sue me even though this is a family business? Also, is that rigth that they not allow me to work in any place for 6 months.?

I advise you to seek a local attorney to review the agreement before you sign it. The wording is normally very specific on what you cannot do during the protected period. It is impossible to answer your question without looking at the severance agreement.
