release of non compete

Phyllis, my company is in litigation and will be closing down and possibly filing Chapter 7. I am not sure if I signed a non compete and we are a Florida company. I have worked for them for 30 years as a sales rep and since they will be closing and will possibly have to file Chapter 7 should I get a release of the possible non compete contract from the owner to cover this in case the Chapter 7 goes through? I found you on MEL. I know you are busy and this is complex, I will be getting laid off in a few weeks and have been putting resumes out and the employers are asking for this release form, and will not consider me unless I have one. I am also 59 which will make it harder to find something. Well I hope you can help me. I live on the east coast of Florida. Also would it be acceptable to write a release on company letter head and have the owner sign it in front of a notary.
