Cutting duties and salary

I am a salaried female supervisor who works at two facilities. The policy of my employer is to pay a certain percentage over base salary to perform duties at two different facilities. Several years ago one of my male colleagues was working at two facilities as I currently do, had his duties cut to just one facility, and did not receive any cut in pay. I am currently going to have my duties cut to just one facility and will have my salary cut accordingly. Is this legal?

I basically agree with Ms. Prinz. However, I think this is worth talking to a lawyer about. It is not legal to pay a man and a woman different salaries because of their sex. The difficulty is in proving that all the other circumstances, except sex, are the same.

An attorney would need more information to answer this question. Has the policy changed in recent years? Are there any male colleagues whose duties are now being cut, but not their salaries? Does your employer have a pattern of cutting only female employees' salaries? It is discriminatory and unlawful to cut your salary based on your gender. However, if your employer is applying the current policy of cutting salaries with cutting duties uniformly to all employees (regardless of gender), then it is likely not discriminatory.
