Supervisor Says She Lied

What rights you have depend on whether you work in the private sector or in the public sector, and whether you are or are not unionized. Another question that needs to be asked is, Why is this supervisor doing this? What is her motivation? Depending on the answer, you may have additional rights.

A statement that simply says, "She lied," probably does not amount to any form of defamation. It's too close to being opinion, and opinion is generally not actionable as defamation. In addition, in the context of the workplace, speech that might otherwise be defamatory receives certain additional protections.
