In a federal case/wrongful termination is there an amount given to the jury to decide on compensatory and punitive damages?

Yes, the plaintiff will ask the jury for a certain amount of damages. If this is a Title VII case, there are statutory limits for the amount of compensatory and punitive damages. The amount depends on the number of employees of the Defendant.
