Job Elimination

I have worked for a large corporation in the same department for 12 years. Six months ago, they changed department head and have let people go with severence packages. I'm at the point where my job responsibilities are gone and days are spent doing nothing at all. Questions:

What are my rights? Do I confront management, requesting an explanation? or sit tight and continue to wait?

I have been never received a bad review and have been helpful with those who have ultimately taken over my responsibilities. I did not receive a bonus.

Thank you.

Waiting for axe to fall...

is certainly not a pleasant position to be in. In order to answer your questions properly, additional information is needed.

For example, what is your age and ethnicity? Do you have an employment contract? How many in your department have been let go and how many remain? The extent of your legal protection is determined, to a certain extent, by the size of your employer. How many employees in total work at the company?

I would be happy to discuss this matter with you further. Please feel free to contact me at (212) 973-0839.
