Answer to I was laid off today and my last day is at the end of this week. I was offered severance. If I accept the severance, will I still be able to file unemployment?

You can file for unemployment but ODJFS will take into account the severance payment. You should still file for benefits.

Answer to Is my employer held accountable for not paying me on time?

Ohio law provides essentially that wages are to be paid within 15 days following the end of the pay period. If not paid after 30 days the employer becomes liable for an extra 6% or $200, whichever is more.

Answer to Can my company make me reapply for FMLA after it has already been approved?

It doesn't sound like your employer is requiring you to reapply for FMLA. It sounds more like you need to contact the disability insurance company to find out what's taking so long.

Answer to My daughter entered into her place of employment with two other co-workers for on off the clock event. The manager pulled them into the office and fired all of them because he stated that they smelled like weed. Is this legal?

Perfectly legal. Employment in Ohio is at-will, meaning employers can terminated an employee for any reason or no reason, as long as its not for an illegal reason such as discrimination. The reason given is not an illegal reason.

Answer to I am planning to retire soon and my employer is suggesting that all the sessions I conduct with the new trainee be taped. I am not comfortable with this arrangement, do I have the right to refuse the training sessions be taped. I live in the state of Ohio

I think your employer can require the sessions to be taped. While it might be unorthodox I suspect your employer wants them taped for future reference after you retire in order to help the new employee.

Answer to Can I receive unemployment if my current employer dissolves or do I have to take a job with the new?

Best thing to do is to apply for benefits and provide accurate information to ODJFS so it can calculate benefits. I can assure you with 100% certainty that if you do not apply you will not receive benefits.
