Bonus Repayment?

At my previous job, I had earned enough sales commission to warrant receiving a bonus. I received the bonus, then left the company a few months later. One of my sales was refunded to a client after my departure. This refund put me below the amount required to earn the bonus. My company is now attempting to retrieve the bonus after I left the company. Is this legal?

Bonus repayment

The company will have to prove they have a right to claim repayment. If they can point to the terms of a bonus program, either written or potentially even just verbally explained to employees, whose terms state that repayment is required if sales are refunded, they may be entitled.
